Ourika Valley day trip: cafés and waterfalls
The Ourika Valley follows its river into the High Atlas, and the paved road ends at Setti Fatma, 64 km (40 miles) and 1 hour 10 minutes from Marrakech by Rome2rio's estimate. Tours usually stop at an argan cooperative, Monday departures can catch the souk at Tnine Ourika, and the valley has Anima, André Heller's sculpture garden. Cafés line the river at Setti Fatma, where the waterfall walk starts.
The Ourika Valley waterfalls walk
Above Setti Fatma, the river drops through seven cascades. The first ones take about 45 minutes each way over rocky ground one operator warns can be slippery; higher up the trail becomes a scramble that listings call moderately challenging, so wear sturdy shoes. Spring snowmelt makes the falls run strongest.
You can walk alone or hire a local guide in the village; one operator puts the fee at 100 to 200 dirhams (about €10 to €20) as of July 2026. Agree on the price and how far you'll go before you start.

Summer storms and the river
The Moroccan news site Le360 reports that storms bring floods of varying strength to the Ourika Valley every year, and that a warning siren sounds several hours before the water rises. On August 6, 2025, a flash flood damaged several riverside cafés, Hespress reported. In summer, check the forecast, move away from the riverbed if you hear the siren or see storm clouds over the peaks, and follow your guide's instructions.
Imlil day trip: villages below Mount Toubkal
Imlil sits at about 1,800 meters below Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa, and is the visitor base for Toubkal National Park. The Kasbah du Toubkal, a lodge above the village, puts the drive at about 75 minutes on paved road via Tahanaout and Asni; tours quote 1.5 to 2 hours with stops, and Asni holds a Saturday market.
Walks you can do in a day
Most Imlil day trips include a guided walk of one to two hours past villages and orchards, on paths operators rate easy to moderate; a local guide puts the waterfall loop at 1.5 to 2 hours and about 120 meters (400 feet) of climbing. On a private day, fit walkers can go further: the Kasbah du Toubkal lists four-hour walks to the Tizi n'Tamatert pass (2,279 meters) or through Aroumd to Sidi Chamharouch, on the lower Toubkal trail. Can you climb Mount Toubkal on a day trip?
No. The standard guided ascent of Mount Toubkal (4,167 meters) from Imlil takes two days, with a night at the Toubkal refuge, at 3,207 meters (10,522 feet). Trekking operators that lead Toubkal climbs say a licensed mountain guide is required, with checkpoints checking passports and the guide's credentials on the trail; Morocco's park authority does not publish the underlying rule online, so book through an operator who arranges the guide rather than planning to hike unaccompanied. Imlil since the 2023 earthquake
The Al Haouz earthquake of September 8, 2023 hit this part of the High Atlas. The Kasbah du Toubkal reported that the road to Imlil reopened within four days and that the village had far less damage than the worst-hit villages. In March 2026, Morocco World News reported 54,425 homes rebuilt across the affected provinces, more than 3,000 under construction and 235 hotels and guesthouses reopened. "Three valleys" tours and the camel ride
"Three valleys" is a sales name, not a route: one listing links Tahanaout, the Moulay Brahim gorge, Asni and Imlil, another Ourika, Oukaïmeden and Asni. Expect several short drives, an argan cooperative, lunch and, on one listing, an optional 1.5 to 2 hour walk.

Limits to know before you book
Altitude, effort and footing. Imlil sits at about 1,800 meters, and the paths climb from there over loose stones and short rises: hard going with a stroller or limited mobility, and more tiring than it looks if you live at sea level. Wet rock near the Setti Fatma falls calls for shoes with grip, not sandals.
Seasons. From December to February, one operator puts valley highs at about 46–57°F (8–14°C), with freezing nights, snow on the peaks and ice on the Sidi Chamharouch trail into March: bring warm layers and waterproof shoes. In summer the mountains are cooler than the city, but start early and watch the sky over the Ourika.
Ask before you photograph. People live and farm here: ask first, and accept a no.
