The short answer: luxury riads in Marrakech with a pool do not all offer the same pool. The word can mean a small plunge pool in the courtyard or on the roof, shared by every guest, a pool heated in the cool months, or a private pool attached to your own suite or house, and listings do not always say which. If you travel between November and March, book only a riad whose pool is heated, or the pool will be for photos. If privacy matters most, look for a private pool attached to your own suite or house. From late spring to early fall, any pool earns its price. For the wider choice of area and riad or hotel, see our guide to where to stay in Marrakech, neighborhood by neighborhood.

How we put this together. Pools, rooms and rates for the four riads below come from each hotel's own website or official listing, read on October 3, 2026. The month-by-month advice comes from the city's climate, not from water temperatures we measured. None of these four has been reviewed in person yet, and we do not publish guest scores: confirm heating, size and position of the pool with the hotel before you book.

Key takeaways

  • A "pool" on a Marrakech riad listing can be a small plunge pool in the courtyard or on the roof, shared by all guests, so ask its size, its position and whether it is heated.
  • Between November and March, an unheated riad pool in Marrakech is usually too cold to enjoy, so a heated pool is worth asking for.
  • A private pool in Marrakech usually means a whole riad or a suite with its own pool, and it sits at the top of the price range.
  • El Fenn states on its website that its rooftop pool is kept at about 24°C and that its spa pool is heated all year, as of October 2026.
  • Some Marrakech riads also offer a pool at a partner club outside the medina, reached by shuttle, so a listing photo may not show the pool on site.

Heated, private or shared: the three kinds of pool

Listings write "pool" for very different things. Before comparing riads, know which one you are paying for.

Kind of pool What it can mean Best for Watch out for
Shared plunge pool A few meters long, in the courtyard or on the roof Cooling off after the souks Overlooked by every room; rarely fenced
Heated shared pool Same, kept warm in the cool months Winter and spring trips Ask the temperature, not just "heated"
Private pool Attached to a suite or a whole riad Honeymoons, privacy Highest price; often a plunge pool too
Off-site pool At a sister property or club, by shuttle Longer stays Not a pool you can step into from your room

Check where the pool actually is. La Maison Arabe, for example, has a pool on site, heated in winter, and a second pool at its Country Club in the Palmeraie, reached by a complimentary shuttle. Both are useful, but only one is a pool in your courtyard. When a listing shows a big garden pool, ask whether it is on site before you book.

Which months a pool is worth paying for

Marrakech sits at the foot of the Atlas, inland, and its seasons swing hard. A pool that is the best part of a June stay can sit untouched in January.

Months Unheated pool Heated pool Our take
Dec–Feb Too cold for most Pleasant at midday Pay only for heated
Mar–Apr Cool, bracing Comfortable Heated is the safer bet
May–Jun Comfortable Not needed Any pool is worth it
Jul–Aug The main reason to stay in Not needed A pool matters most
Sep–Oct Comfortable Not needed Any pool is worth it
Nov Cooling fast Comfortable Heated is the safer bet

The months above are guidance from the city's climate (cool winter nights, hot summers), not measured water temperatures. Water in an unheated pool lags behind the air, so a warm April afternoon does not mean a warm pool.

Four luxury riads with a pool, and what kind

These four publish clear details about their pools on their own websites. That is the reason they are here, not a ranking. Rooms and rates were checked on October 3, 2026, and prices are shown in the currency each hotel publishes: euros, dollars or Moroccan dirhams (MAD). We do not convert euros, because the rate you pay depends on the day and on your card; for the one rate in dirhams, we add a rough dollar figure at Morocco's central bank reference rate, so you can place it.

Rates change daily; the hotel's site lists the Deluxe Suite from 14,500 MAD a night as of October 2026, roughly $1,470 at Bank Al-Maghrib's reference rate of October 2, 2026 (9.85 MAD to the dollar): the highest starting rate published in this guide (Royal Mansour publishes none), for a suite that sleeps four. Check the live price for your dates.

A photo will not show you the shade around a pool, the noise from the terrace or how many loungers there are for the guests: ask the hotel before you book.

Traveling in winter A pool heated all year El Fenn's spa pool; ask La Sultana and Villa des Orangers which months they heat
A family with young kids A shallow or fenced pool El Fenn's 70 cm plunge pool

Traveling in summer on a budget Any pool, heated or not See the budget picks in our best riads guide

For couples choosing between a riad and a resort, our guide to where to stay in Marrakech for couples matches the area to your kind of trip.

"Heated" is not a temperature. Ask the riad what temperature the pool is kept at in your month, and whether heating costs extra. A pool "heated" to 20°C still feels cold on a January afternoon.

FAQ

Do riads in Marrakech have heated pools?

Some do. El Fenn, La Villa des Orangers and La Sultana all state that at least one pool is heated, as of October 2026. Smaller riads do not always say, so ask before booking a winter trip.

Can you swim in Marrakech in winter?

In a heated pool, yes, at midday. Unheated pools are usually too cold from December to February, when nights average close to 6°C (43°F).

Which luxury riads in Marrakech have a private pool?

Royal Mansour gives each of its 53 riads its own pool. Elsewhere, a private pool usually means renting a whole riad.

Is a riad with a pool worth it in Marrakech?

From May to October, yes: the afternoon heat makes a pool the best place to be. From November to March, only if the pool is heated.
